About Gender Confirmation Surgery
Sex change surgery, more appropriately known as gender confirmation surgery, gender reassignment surgery or sex reassignment surgery is the final stage in the physical transitioning of a transgender person. GCS / GRS is the surgical procedure to change the external genitalia (sex organs) to the desired gender.
Male to Female Sex change surgery, more appropriately known as gender confirmation surgery (GCS), gender reassignment surgery (GRS) is the final stage in the physical transitioning of a transgendered male-to-female. GCS is a surgical procedure that entails removing the external genitalia, followed by reconstruction of female genital organs.
The procedure carries high rates of success when performed by well trained and experienced surgeons, particularly for male-to-female GCS. Gender confirmation surgery has been performed for over 50 years and the techniques have been refined steadily in the past 10 years providing patients with excellent results. Normal erogenous sensitivity should be achieved, which enables patients to experience normal sexual intercourse and genital orgasm following Gender Confirmation Surgery.
At London TransGender Surgery our team recognises that many individuals will complete their transition with GCS/GRS and go on to live happy and fulfilled lives as female. However, we appreciate that some Transgender individuals will continue in their transition for the duration of their lives. Whilst these Transgender individuals identify themselves as female, they never feel the need to fully transition by undergoing Gender Confirmation Surgery.
