Hormone Therapy During Covid-19
Waiting times for hormone therapy appointments are 2-3 weeks (updated 16 April 2020).
Before making your appointment at The London Transgender Clinic for hormone therapy, you must have seen a psychologist or psychiatrist for assessment and diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria/Incongruence.
If you have a diagnosis from either the NHS, or a private provider, you are welcome to contact us for an appointment to commence hormone therapy.
If you require an appointment to see our psychiatrist, Dr Dmitri Popelyuk or our psychologist Dr Vickie Pasterski who are both currently offering video consultations, the waiting time is approximately 2-3 weeks.
Following your psychological assessment, you will need to arrange your blood tests. We understand that given the current circumstances some GPs and hospitals are unable to accommodate “non-essential” blood testing. This is not urgent and can be accessed at a later date but will be required prior to issuing any prescription for hormone therapy.
Recommended private services:
- The Doctors laboratory
We do not, however, recommend “home fingerpick test kits” as results are not always accurate.
Hormone Prescription and Medical Report
A prescription and shared care guidance will be issued to you and your GP once we have completed your face to face appointment in Clinic and you have undergone your physical examination.
If you are trans male/non-binary transmasculine:
We understand it can be challenging for some patients to book an appointment with their GP or practice nurse at present. Our initial suggestion would be to transfer to Testogel. However, for some patients this may not be an option.
Our clinic will be open one day a week to assist all patients with their essential Nebido/Sustanon injection. This will be completed by our Nurse Prescriber. The clinic will follow strict safety regulations in order to keep infection risk to a minimum. More information will be given upon booking your appointment. Please ensure you read these carefully and comply with the safety measures when coming into the Clinic.
The London Transgender Clinic have decided to offer this service free of charge to all transgender patients during this difficult time.
If you are trans female/non-binary transfeminine:
Decapeptyl IM injection or Zoladex SC implant
Patients who are facing difficulties booking their appointment for their essential anti-androgen can book to see our Nurse Prescriber free of charge. Our clinic will be open one day a week to assist you. Please check our website and social media for updated information. Patients will be required to follow the instructions given by our team prior to their appointment. You will be notified of these when booking your appointment.
Patients who are happy to temporarily switch their anti-androgen injection/implant to a tablet form, can contact their GP, or, alternatively, get in touch with us for more information about safely switching medication.
FOR EVERYONE – FREE CLINIC FOR INJECTABLE/IMPLANT HORMONES:
No matter who your healthcare provider is, we will be happy to administer your injection or implant as we understand that this is an essential service for all trans and non-binary individuals.
We welcome and look forward to supporting everyone on the NHS or in private healthcare. Given the current situation, we will run a free-of-charge clinic one day, every week to help everyone with their injections.
All patients (under the care of a different provider) are requested to provide:
- their medication
- a form of ID
- confirmation from their GP or regular prescriber
More information will be provided when booking your appointment.
